Damn it was hot, but what a show. I thought the band was very tight and sounded great. Mike looked healtly and was really on form. My ears are still ringing....
Here is a little review of the show from the Colorado Spring Gazette:
Social D’s frontman puts on heck of a show
By JOE HORTON SPECIAL TO THE GAZETTE
The band Social Distortion, continuing its long-standing rock rebellion against the superficial, money-drenched conservatism of Southern California, offered a ferocious stage show Saturday night that left heat bouncing off the hills of Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
With temperatures still high in the evening air, frontman Mike Ness led his revolvingdoor collection of bandmates on stage to the blare of air-raid sirens. Opening with a skillful instrumental riff, Ness belted out a high-energy rendition of “Reach for the Sky,” the first track from the band’s latest album, “Sex, Love and Rock ’n’ Roll.”
Though the evening featured many songs from the latest release, such as “Highway 101” and a very moving “Angel’s Wings,” classic Social D hits were not forgotten. Ness encouraged his “backup singers” in the audience to join on favorites such as “Sick Boys,” “Ball and Chain” and the band’s immortal anthem, “Story of My Life.”
The highlight of the show was undoubtedly the cover of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire,” during which the Red Rocks stage lights were blasted into the audience and illuminated the delighted frenzy of the assembled faithful.
Ness’s vocals were strong throughout the evening, and he maintained an excellent rapport with the audience. He sings with the vigor of a man who’s survived nearly 30 years in the punk rock scene, lost a chunk of his ear in a fight with another rocker and endured the death of bandmate Dennis Danell in 2000.
Indeed, Ness is the face of Social D, for both good and bad. His bandmates — guitarist Jonny Wickersham, bassist Brent Harding and drummer Charlie Quintana — are not particularly engaging performers and are prone to hiding in the shadows and support-singing with uninspiring, barely audible tones. As the umpteenth incarnation of Social D, they have decided not to rock the boat.
Though the rapid-fire succession of songs drew attention to the fact that many numbers share central beats that are merely variations on a theme, this theme is battle-tested, sturdy and successful.
If the ecstatic, spastically inebriated “dancing” of a particularly vocal 30-something fan with his pregnant wife looking on with more than a little embarrassment is any indication, the fans of Social D may have aged, but they still enjoy a good show.

What the hell, Joe forgot to mention Danny, he is a part of the band!
deadliner's ears are ringing because he was in the FRONT ROW with me. My daughter and I got there at 7am. Another guy showed up at 9am and his friends were razzing him (being the huge fan he is) that he wasn't first in line and I say "it's because I love social D more"!!!!!!! I can't explain to you just how awesome a show this was for me, especially right at the end when Mike looked straight into my eyes, I smiled, gave him the fist on my heart then pointed to him.( and no I didn't f****n imagine it, even though I was a little intoxicated.) Setlist and comments were pretty much the same, No Road Zombie (was there?) and no Pleasure seeker even though I wrote it on my arms with a sharpie....maybe next time?
They were ALL hot!!!!!!!!and I don't mean from the heat!!
Hey all..was in town from Phoenix and caught the show and it was amazing. I grew up in Colorado and have seen many shows at the rocks, but this one pretty much tops them all for many reasons.
Anyway, Didn't they lead with Road Zombie? Would have loved to have heard "Don't take me for Granted", but I'm not complaining. Loved the keyboard intro to "Prison Bound"..way cool.
Yes, mrsweaser, they opened with Road Zombie, that's the instrumental they started with.
What the hell with that guy who wrote that article ...

A: how much can Charlie do from behind a drum kit? And he doesn't sing .... B: Seems to me I keep reading about how fun Brent adn Jonny are to watch, and how great their backup vocals are and C: and Greaser Girl pointed out, What about Danny?
That guy was smoking crack!

I'm sorry, but "delighted" is probably the LAST word I would use to describe a Social D crowd .....

I must say, the first several songs of the show were just about rock 'n roll perfection, my mind sort of blurs it all together already too, and I didn't even have anything to drink......The band, the whole show, it all was awesome, I just don't what else to say.....
I don't know if this guy saw the same band I did.
Yeah, right before the band came out, wasn't that when I broke out in verses of pleasure seeker, begging for more, just a little more....
and talk about wishing the good times could last a little longer, I wish I could burn some of those moments in my brain and live there forever, I'm so pathetic. Hey , it's mrsweezer, not weaser.
